Ear Adapter lets you adapt earbuds into headphones

While earbuds undoubtedly have the ability to offer up audiophile quality sounds (think Shure SE535), the type of sound offered and the comfort will no doubt differ from headphones. This has led to some users purchasing both headphones and earbuds to suit their needs, but if you don’t think you have the money for high-end headphones and earbuds, this Ear Adapter by designer JC Karich might be worth checking out.

Ear Adapter

As the name itself has probably implied, the Ear Adapter allows users to fit their earbuds into slots on a headphone-like structure (which includes cushioning for the ears), thus providing users with the comfort and styling of headphones. We have to admit that this is a pretty clever idea and while we can’t speak for the quality of the audio after it has been adapted into the Ear Adapter, its design is currently available on Thingiverse and can be printed out on a 3D printer if you have access to one. In the mean time you can check out the video below to see the Ear Adapter in action.

PSB aims high with ‘luxury’ noise-cancelling headphones

PSB has launched its first pair of headphones in the form of the high-end, noise-cancelling M4U 2 over-ear cans.

The Canadian speaker manufacturer says the headphones are the result of a “multi-year research program” at the Acoustics Laboratory at Canada’s National Research Council.

PSB headphones

A closed-back design, the PSB M4U 2 headphones use a four-microphone active noise cancelling system to help block out a broader spectrum of noise.

Claiming durable materials as well as a “strong design statement”, the headphones also feature a monitor button allowing you to instantly pause your music to hear outside noise.

Interestingly, the new PSB M4U 2 headphones also promise to not only reduce distortion from portable devices such as the iPod and iPhone but in so doing extend the battery life.

Talking of battery life, the headphones themselves are battery powered and good for an impressive 55 hours or so of life and will also work in passive mode should you be caught short.

PSB headphones

PSB supplies the M4U 2 headphones with a protective travel case, two accessory cords, plus stereo and flight adapters. Available in black, a white model is due in August.

The new PSB M4U 2 headphones have a suggested retail price of £299.

Urbanears Plattan Denim headphones

Most of us would associate denim with the material that we wear when we put on a pair of jeans. You know, the hardy material that looks good even as it ages, and you need not wash them too often – even better when you are wearing a pair of black jeans. I also remember denim being used elsewhere – like for my pair of Levi’s glasses, the case itself was wrapped in denim. Enter the Plattan Denim headphones from Urbanears, and from the name alone, you can tell just what kind of material encases the outside – denim, of course!

Plattan Denim headphones

The Plattan Denim is said to be the latest staple in the Urbanears collection, where it was specially designed to fit like your favorite pair of jeans, and will be part of the second model which rolled out recently as part of the Urbanears Editions range, which is actually a special line of headphones that was designed to offer a little bit of extra oomph whenever you wear it out.

Fashionistas will definitely be able to appreciate the Plattan Denim, as it comes with a raw denim finish which will gently age over time. Not only that, brass accents and indigo colored ear cushions as well as a fabric cord will complete the cool look, and one thing is guaranteed – you should never, ever send the Plattan Denim for a wash, since it is not designed to be water-resistant, let alone waterproof.

For those who are interested in picking up a pair of the Plattan Denim Edition, it was already pre-launched over at Apple Stores and Apple.com in the US a couple of days ago, and will be available worldwide at Urbanears retailers as well as through online channels this coming May 23rd. The asking price? Well, it really depends on which side of the pond you live in, and even then, the local denomination will differ, although the numeral figure remains the same. Time to whip out those calculators and ask a friend from the US to send one over, no? After all, we are looking at price points of $80, 80€, £80, 800 kr and 800 dkk.
